Hung Gar (Hong Jia) Martial Art

Posted by Sghoksan On 23:59

Hung Gar is a form of southern martial arts taught by Reverend Zhi Shan of southern Shaolin Temple to outsiders. Its sequence is numeral but repetitive, and requires the practitioner to be ferocious, firm, swift and explosive in the moves he/she executes. The movement is wide and emphasizes building the strengths at the waist, arms, and legs (horse stance) regions. Furthermore, the emphasis of the arms, Qiao Shou (桥手), by Hung Gar is a form of martial arts unseen in many others.

To master Hung Gar martial art, one has to ensure a stable horse stance and able to manipulate the explosive strength (劲) within. In achieving so, the practitioner will feel lighter in movement and stronger in fitness.
