Dear all, we are currently in the process of planning and scheduling our 2013 Chinese New Year Cai Qing activities.
Our dates for Cai Qing are 11th, 17th and 24th February 2013 (day 2,8 and 15 of Chinese New Year).

Singapore Hok San youth group members met up with other clans and associations' youth group members in a trip to Universal Studios Singapore organized by Kwong Wai Siew Peck San Theng last month. We went to one of the latest attractions in Singapore - Universal Studio(s). We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly there. Some of the site's attractions, such as Jurassic Park and Transformers Ride were popular with the youths and we had a good time there. On top are some of the photos that we had taken during our trip. Our trip embarked on a three days two nights to Malaysia on the 9th of December.The first destination that we were heading to for the first day was Genting highlands.It took us around four hours plus to reach to the top.Upon reaching ,we were all directed to our assigned rooms for the night.Then,our members had our free and easy session till the next day.
On the second day,we headed down the mountain and was on own way to KL.Later in the night,we attended KL's Hok San association's anniversary dinner at 天后宫。Besides us,many of our Hok San association from other countries,graced the event too.On the third day,we were heading back to singapore.

4th Traditional Martial Arts Display 2011

After a year of hard work, our young members had their first major martial arts performance at the 4th Traditional Martial Arts Display 2011 held at Hong Lim Park two weeks ago. They performed a total of four segments with confidence and drew warm applauses from the audience. Amongst the crowd were martial arts enthusiasts and participating martial art troupes members that included several coaches and masters. We were all excited and honoured to be part of this event as we were fortunate to witness an array of different styles of traditional martial arts being performed right in front of our eyes. This event had not only allowed us to be exposed to the local traditional and vibrant pugilistic community, but more importantly let us reaffirmed our commitment to promoting this form of traditional Chinese culture to more people! Autumn Praying Festival 2011

Definition: 慎终: to think in-depth the meaning of life as a being; 追远：to think of what are the values our predecessors have left for us - moral teachings to be learnt and practised.
This verse, which is displayed prominently near the entrance of Kwong Wai Siew Peck San Theng, refers to remembering the good deeds our ancestors have done and to continue that kind of practises to become a moral being. Such gesture of goodwill has been inculcated in the traditional Chinese custom of ancestor worship and performed for many many years. Certainly, there is a religious element in performing the praying ritual. But, the key purpose of the paying respect to the ancestors is to serve as a time where all family members gather to reaffirm and foster the kinship amongst themselves. And for our clan association, it is one of the key events annually to pay respect and foster strong communal ties amongst our members, a tradition which was passed down since our troupe's establishment in 1920.
This event, part of the Spring and Autumn Praying Festival, is different from the rest of the activities that we often have as it is solemn and most in touch with the tradition of our clan association. Amidst the praying ritual, our younger generation were informed on the values this event has in continuing the Chinese tradition of filial piety and respect towards the old on one hand, and learning the ethics and values to be a better person. It has been one of the memorable event every year for us youths as we always learn something new whenever we come to Peck San Theng for the event.
On a lighter note, we also celebrated our Clan Association's 72th, Troupe's 92nd, Women's Wing's 5th and Youth Wing's and Blog's 3rd anniversary with a dinner reception held on the same night at the main hall. As we approach to close to a century old amidst the fast-paced modern society, we will continue to stay relevant and meaningful to the society with the promotion of our clan association's own distinct Chinese culture and values!

Mid Autumn Festival cum BBQ Night 2011

The annual mid-autumn festival was celebrated by us with a BBQ dinner held at our clan association last month. The atmosphere was joyous as our members with their friends and relatives crowded around the BBQ pit to grill and bond. Not only that, we had a taste of the culinary skill of our youth wing's "chef" as local delicacy such as fried bee hoon and grilled squid in sambal chilli which were swamped out quickly. In addition to the festival, we also celebrated the birthday of members being born in the month of September with a simple but meaningful cake-cutting ceremony.
Being a traditional festival, there was the mind-puzzling riddle-guessing game organised by our elder members as the members and guests were made to think hard before a few of them got the answers correct and won the prizes. In addition, our members also had an unique game that involved lion dancing as our members performed the "Cai Qing" routine to get match the poetic words with the matching lanterns to win the game. Alas, the climax of the event had got to be the lucky draw which brought a lot of cheers and laughter to the crowd. Here are some of the images captured on that eventful night!

Guan Ying Festival 2011

Our clan association celebrated its annual Guan Yin (观音) festival last month with several activities being held. A praying ritual was conducted in the clan association by taoist monks to give blessings to our participating members. This was followed by the distribution of goodie bags to the members on the next day.
The festival was concluded on the third day with an auction dinner for invited guests to bid for items which were being blessed during the ritual. The atmosphere at the event dinner, which was held at red star restaurant, was lively as our guests participated actively in the bidding. As an appreciation for our guests' continual support for our clan association's festival, our guan yin festival planning committee members went from table to table to toast to our guest heartily, which include members from our Malaysian counterparts.
The three-day event was not possible without the contribution from our members who took time off from their hectic schedule to help out in ensuring the success of this event. A celebratory dinner was held separately a week after the main event as a gathering to thank all our participating crew members. Here are the photos to share!

Trip to Ulu Tiram Hok San Clan Association!

Our clan association was honoured to be invited by our Ulu Tiram, Malaysia counterparts to grace their swearing-in ceremony. In addition, we also make use of this trip to further foster our close bonds with one another through exchanging with each other on our recent activities and development respectively. Not to forget, we have our usual karaoke joint singing to end the trip on a high note.
